Go! Rebelle! Out now!

Go! Rebelle!

The Rebelles’ debut long player out now!

Go! Rebelle! takes the time-honoured themes of cars, boys, and the highs and lows of love and heartbreak, and pushes them a step further as only they know how.

Recorded over the past year at Melbourne’s legendary Soundpark Studios, they’ve created a sound big enough to match their big voices and bigger hearts. Every song is packed chock full of guitars, drums, keyboards, strings, horns and enough percussion to sink a ship. The end result is a spectacular album which captures the band’s boundless energy, rock’n’roll attitude and amazingly rich harmonies.

You can pick up your own copy on CD from Melbourne’s best record stores, including:

Title, 343 Sydney Road Brunswick

‘Spanish Fitzroy’ video out now!

We’ve been posting some stills of our recent video shoot over the past few weeks, which judging by the questions we’ve had about its release has got a few of you quite excited! Well ladies and gentlemen and all those in between, your wait is over.

That’s right, our video for ‘Spanish Fitzroy’ is out now! Starring The Rebelles as themselves and introducing Adam La Rosa as Johnston Street Boy, ‘Spanish Fitzroy’ is the very first original piece of Rebelles music ever made public and a tasty introduction to our upcoming album, ‘Go! Rebelle!’. (Did we happen to mention we’re launching our record at the Thornbury Theatre on 25 July? Tickets here: http://thethornburytheatre.com/event/rebelles-album-launch/)

And we couldn’t be prouder of both the song and the video!

But in case you’re wondering who is really responsible for this stunning visual work, the video was directed by Nikki Tran and produced by Lauren Woolcock, with ace cinematography by Josh Mitchell-Frey. We reckon they deserve a Grammy and a Nobel Prize for putting up with us!

Wanna look? Course you do! Well here it is:

Pozible Campaign Update

We’re super psyched to announce that our Pozible campaign reached its target in less than two weeks – it usually takes us a year to get that much in the bank! We honestly didn’t expect such an overwhelming response, so thank you very much for your dirty cash and your kind words of support, especially to our overseas friends. Our debut record is being mastered as we speak!
But – and you knew this was coming! – we’d like to keep the campaign going to help with promoting our launch and producing our video for the first single from the record. We filmed it last Sunday with a cast and crew bigger than Ben Hur and may have gone a teeny bit over budget. Yes, it’s a recurring theme with us, we know, we’re working on it.

So please keep the pledges coming in if you haven’t yet, every reward is fantastic, especially the Rebellogram and there’s only one left! We can’t think of a better birthday present for that someone special in your life. It goes without saying that we fully support the reckless consumption of alcohol while you decide just how generous your pledge is going to be …

rebelles_pozible

After two years of hard work The Rebelles’ debut album is almost here! We’ve just listened to the final mix and we couldn’t be more excited by the songs we’ve written and the rich and textured sound we’ve created. If you’ll allow us this one moment of indulgence, we reckon we’ve smashed it!

The next step is to get this great record out to the world and into as many ears as possible – and we’d like your involvement. The Rebelles’ Pozible crowdfunding campaign is officially up and running. We’ve come up with an awesome range of rewards, from signed albums and rare merchandise, all the way through to your very own Rebelles gig!

Every cent raised will go to the mastering, pressing and promotion of our debut album. The Rebelles have been blessed with such supportive and fun audiences from our very first gig, so it feels right to invite you to join in now and help get our record over the line.

Last 2 shows for 2014

The Rebelles are taking a break from recording their highly anticipated debut LP – not long now, people! – to shake off that studio dust with a double dose of rockin’ live action and dance floor madness.

First up is an absolute doozy! The Rebelles will be sharing the LuWow stage with Japanese beat punk freaks, the Minnesota Voodoo Men. If you like your early Stones and Yardbirds mixed in the wash with some Link Wray and pegged onto the hills hoist to dry by Billy Childish, then you’ll be heading down to the LuWow for one hell of a night. Get there early, share a famous LuWow cocktail with an attractive stranger and let yourself go go! This will be a big one!

minnesotabig

Then you’ve got 48 hours before we get rowdy all over again, this time down at Yah Yahs, supporting the ever excellent Kinematic for the launch of their fourth LP, Kinecism. Kinematic have been mainstays on the Melbourne scene since back in 2000 and are part of the Rebelles royal bloodline in the form of Oz Rebelle (drummer extraordinaire, paramour of the gorgeous Ms Connie Rebelle and sire of Junior Rebelles founding member Wee Ivy Jean Rebelle).

Arcane Saints Ignite

These are your last chances to catch the amazing Rebelles live show for 2014. It’s practically a long weekend so don’t be late, Jake!

– The Minnesota Voodoo Men, The Rebelles and The Reprobettes, Thursday 30 October at the LuWow. Tickets just $12 on the door.

– Kinematic plus The Rebelles, Saturday 1 November at Yah Yahs. Tickets $13 on the door. Facebook event here

The Rebelles present “Double Date #3 with The Sugar Fed Leopards and special guest star Mikelangelo – Saturday April 5 at the Spotted Mallard

rebelles_mallard_april5_poster_web
The Rebelles wrap up their series of Double Dates at Brunswick’s Spotted Mallard on Saturday 5 April with one more spectacular, not-to-be-missed show.

First up is the hip ’n’ happening Sugar Fed Leopards, led by the super talented Sugar Breath (AKA our very own Jez Rebelle) and her merry bunch of musical misfits. The Leopards mine that rich vein of joy between disco and soul and are always quick to put a smile on your dial and a skip in your step!

Next, The Rebelles bid a fond au revoir to the Spotted Mallard’s wonderful stage. The Rebelles used the first two Double Dates to premier their very own originals (coming together as we speak for their debut album!), meaning you can expect more exciting world firsts scattered amongst your favourite Girl Group classics!

And to top it off, your special host for the evening will be Melbourne’s very own Mr Sophistication, Mikelangelo! It’s not often The Rebelles are joined by on-stage guests, but when Mikelangelo asked so sweetly they just couldn’t say no. Expect a special treat or three to make your Saturday night dance card complete!

That’s Saturday April 5, 8.30 pm
The Spotted Mallard, 314 Sydney Road, Brunswick
Entry only $5!

The Rebelles present “Double Date” No.2 with The Perfections – Saturday March 1 at the Spotted Mallard

The Rebelles present "Double Date" No.2 with The Perfections - Saturday March 1 at the Spotter Mallard

Melbourne’s very own Girlgroup Sensation continues to tear through 2014 with their triple bill of Double Dates – hooking up with some of their favourite fellow Melbournites at Brunswick’s Spotted Mallard in February, March and April.

The sensational six-piece sound of The Perfections combines powerful female vox, stompin’ horns and a rockin’ band, churning out a unique sound that has been destroying dance floors across Melbourne town. The Rebelles will need to keep one eye on these energetic bad boys (and gal) and be on their best girlgroup behaviour to ensure Double Date Number 2 ends with their modesty intact!

Plus extra Rebelles goodness with toe-tappin’ choons through the night provided by Potsie Rebelle!

That’s Saturday March 1, 8.30 pm
The Spotted Mallard, 314 Sydney Road, Brunswick
Entry only $5!
