The Rebelles must surely be one of the largest girl groups in Melbourne, if not the world, but they have never let that stop them squeezing themselves onto pub stages all around their beloved city. On the last Sunday afternoon in May, they’ll be testing the Workers Club floors and their own coordination, with all 19 (or thereabouts!) Rebelles bringing their musical stylings back to Fitzroy.
If you were born at the same time as this Naarm institution was formed, you would now be almost legal drinking age! Over that time the Rebelles have honed their style, sprinkling the classic girl group sound with their own modern twists. They may shimmy, doo-lang and sha-la-la-la, but they will do it with a glint in their eye and with the back-up of the formidable power of their four-piece band.
The Rebelles are thrilled to be joined by Cinco Savage. Not only has this local 6-piece rock’n’roll band just unleashed their latest album, Somewhere Between 3 & 5am, on the world, they also happen to share a member with the Rebelles in the inimitable form of Kerrie Loveless, aka EV Rebelle. She sounds just as good belting out front of Cinco Savage as she does singing dulcet harmonies with her musical sisters. Afternoon may not be the time immortalised in their album title, but you best believe that they can still knock your socks off even when the sun is up.
So do come on down – the stage will be jampacked with Rebelles and musical goodness, and your heart will be jampacked with joy!
